Disguising Your Security Camera

We have this amazing TELUS security and automation system installed in our office and thought it might be fun to disguise the camera in our backyard with a mini birdhouse cover for the ✨ aesthetic ✨ This system can be monitored and controlled from anywhere all with one app on your smartphone. With live video, we can answer the door and see what’s happening at the office – right from our phone. Here’s how we disguised it!

We found an old birdhouse from the thrift store that seemed just about the right size. We chopped off the back half and drilled a bigger hole in the front and boom, it fit perfectly over the camera without obstructing the view. We can still secure the backyard even if we forget to lock the door! We get a reminder once we’ve left the area to lock up from my phone, so if we are already done for the day and in bed, there is nothing to worry about! Just have to open the TELUS SmartHome app and use our Weiser lock to lock the doors, turn off the lights and arm the system, literally without moving a muscle.

To make the birdhouse a bit cuter and fit the aesthetic of the office a bit better, we painted it this pretty olive green colour. Not only does this look cute, it will attract the attention of people outside! 60% of intruders will move on to another home if they see a camera or signs of a security system, so if their eyes go to the cute bird house and they see its a security camera, chances are they will probably leave! However, if intruders attempt a break-in, the door, window or motion sensors will notify me and their central monitoring service.

Check out a day in my life around the office through the eyes of my TELUS Security Cameras here!
