Making A Tiny Mouse House (Miniatures)

Yup… my weird is showing. I’ve had this random hole in my wall for a while and was originally going to fill it in and try and hide it, but then I started seeing miniature houses all over TikTok and had the idea to do something similar in there!! So where to start?

Ratios and Sizing

There are two scales to refer to when making miniatures: half scale and full scale. I chose half scale as the hole is pretty small, but it really depends on how big the space your making is! For reference :

Half scale - 1ft = 0.5” / 1 : 24

Full scale - 1ft = 1” / 1 : 12

What to make

I found an old doll house in half scale that has a lot of detailed items that I can use on Facebook marketplace (pictured here). That being said, there is still a lot I need to make that didn’t come in the doll house. Let’s narrow it down…

Front Door

If I don’t want the hole filled with items to be so obvious, I wanted a way to be able to cover it up while still keeping the aesthetic of a nice house, so I decided to make a front entrance. Using hardboard, I crafted together the shape I needed to cover the door. I had a front door from the set I bought so I made a cutout to fit the door into and painted the door the same colour as my house door to match…so freakin cute. To add the white brick texture, which matches the wall that it’s going onto, I got plaster and used a ruler to create the brick pattern. Once it was all glued together, it is the cutest entry way ever!!

Flooring

I decided to make my mouse house two stories, because I had a staircase from the doll house I got, so using the same hard board, I got popsicle sticks and cut them into smaller ‘hardwood’ pieces and hot glued them on, but to match the aesthetic, I wood stained them closer to my house flooring vibe!

Fireplace

For the fireplace, using the hardboard, I cut out the shape of the fireplace and spread some LEPAGE PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive to adhere little stones I found in a nearby garden. There was no certain pattern I followed, I just wanted it to look natural and organic. After I used some grey plaster and whipped it off so it would just stay in between the cracks. I added in a little light up fireplace I made out of cardboard and red paper and it was done!

Final Results

There is so much detail that went into this little space, so be sure to check out the video I made of the whole process to ensure you don’t miss any of them!
