Cozy Scandinavian Basement Bedroom Makeover - Making Home

Welcome to my series Making Home where I makeover my newly renovated house into my dream home! If you haven’t seen the previous episodes where I demo my house, go through renovations and finally start decorating then you need to check out our playlist here. I totally transformed my basement bathroom and refreshed my kitchen, so now it’s time to make over my creepy basement bedroom into the ultimate cozy space! This is how my bedroom looked before:

BEFORE

My inspo for this makeover is this hotel in Italy that is literally inside of a cave, with minimalist Scandinavian touches. I want to lean into the cave-vibe for this space since one of my walls has an uneven plaster effect and the low ceilings make it feel enclosed.

To start off this makeover I painted the walls an off-white neutral colour. I chose to paint a little more than half the wall instead of painting the whole thing since I didn’t want the ceiling to look too white in this low space. I hung two mirrors on the walls, one arched one and one tinted mirror, to make the space feel much bigger.

Next, I thrifted this dresser off of Facebook Marketplace and upcycled it using some green paint. I also added mid century modern legs, getting rid of the kick plate and sawing the two of the sides off to make it look more sleek. I also installed some beautiful floating oak mid century modern nightstands beside my bed.

Behind my bed I DIY’d a headboard using half inch foam and natural white linen fabric. I didn’t use any backing on this, I literally glued it to my wall, because I wanted it to fit the organic shape of the wall. Finally, I added some hooks to my wall, threw down some rugs, and styled it with some vintage family photos, letters and thrifted decor. Check out my cozy Scandinavian basement bedroom!
