Arizona Desert Vibes Backyard Patio Makeover
When my recent trip to Arizona got #cancelled due to Miss Rona, I had to rethink my summer vacation. Instead of flying to the desert, I decided to bring the Southwestern vibes to my own backyard! I’m so happy to have partnered with Plants For Less and Article for this outdoor makeover, who helped make this all happen. To check out all the products I used, find the links at the end of the post. Okay now let’s get started on this makeover!
THE PLAN
I started with an inspo pic (seen below) from Pinterest that I sent to Plants For Less. I really wanted to go for Arizona desert vibes, lots of patio stones and natural materials. I also wanted to create this really cool circle patio feature to include a big fire pit for summer nights.
I gave all this info to Plants For Less and they came up with a perfect design for my backyard! Plants For Less is so great because they bring all of the supplies that you need for your landscaping right to your backdoor and then let you take over the rest; it’s like the ultimate DIYers dream!
LET’S GET STARTED
With all of the supplies delivered, I began by digging out the grass in my backyard in the path I wanted. To tackle the circle part I stuck a post in the ground in the middle of the circle and attached a string that was the radius measurement of my circle. Then I brought it around with me as I dug to ensure my circle was entirely straight! Once dug out, I poured pebbles around the outside of the circle and the edges of the pathways to help the larger stones set properly. Then I got to placing the patio stones on the edge of the paths and the circle to make a pattern that looked something like this:
With the stones down, I cut some landscape fabric to size to cover all of the exposed dirt path. Then I poured TONS of tiny pebbles into the middle and laid some larger patio stones in the path outside of the circle. In the end, the stones looked so good and I was ready to move onto gardening!
GARDENING
Around the outer edge of the pathways I dug out holes for each of my plants. Then I cut more landscape fabric to cover it, with slots over each hole and planted all of my plants, adding new soil as I went. Once planted, I covered the ground in the garden with mulch and added two huge rocks to complete the look. Now it’s time for final touches!
FINAL TOUCHES
I bought this super nice fire pit to put in the centre of the patio circle, but I love multi-functional decor, so I actually made a super cute and convenient table top DIY so that this fire pit can transform into a coffee table. Check out how I made this really easy DIY here. Next I hung up some outdoor string lights and added my vibey Article furniture! This outdoor furniture is super durable and so gorgeous, it really pulled this makeover together. With the final touches done, check out my Southwestern Arizona vibes backyard patio!
I can’t even tell you how proud I am of this makeover, it was probably one of the hardest makeovers I’ve ever done but also one of the most rewarding! If you want to see me take on this makeover in action, check out the video below!
