LOFT VIBES: THROWING AN EPIC PARTY

LOFT VIBES: THROWING AN EPIC PARTY

We’re so sad that it’s the end of our loft series: Loft Vibes but we’re so excited to go out with a BANGing party! This party wouldn’t have been possible without Etsy Canada. They heard we were planning to have a big loft warming party and wanted to help us plan it and provide some DOPE décor. The photos you see here were taken by the talented Becca Lemire. Obviously photos are a huge part of every party and our guests (and me as seen below lol) loved taking Polaroid pics. The felt letter board by Letterboards Canada is giving off all of the right vibes. We had SO MUCH FOOD at this party including a DIY taco bar!! These bamboo forks and plates by Revelry Party Co are way cuter AND eco friendly than some basic styrofoam or paper plates.   These Sorry and Etsy cookies were so cute (and delicious) and a nice little take away for our guests! We just threw them in an extra round table tray we had! We had cactus printed napkins and cups from Mikas Party Shop and food looks 100x better when it’s displayed on a rustic wood cutting board (from Serenity Stumps). We didn’t go too crazy with the decor because we didn’t want it to feel too crowded in the space. We also have really tall ceilings so it was important for us to make sure our decor showed that off and that not everything was at eye level. Etsy ordered us these HUGE circular balloons and we DIY’d tassels for the strings to really make them pop. You...
LOFT VIBES: THE OFFICE & WORK SPACE

LOFT VIBES: THE OFFICE & WORK SPACE

DIY Projects get real in today’s episode! We had a plan to build the ultimate filming set up that was both beautiful and functional but making it happen turned out to be a lot of work! 8+ man hours of assembling Ikea cabinets plus the help of our talented handyman friend, Chris Palmer, and our dream space was on it’s way!   Chris also helped us build a matching work bench for in front of the DIY storage unit complete with wheels and a storage shelf! The tops of both the work bench and storage unit are butcher’s block which we sealed with a clear Varathane. Need help with a project? Check out more of Chris’ work here: https://www.handcraftedbychrispalmer.com/ Behind our storage unit, we wanted to build a custom pegboard. We drilled carefully spaced out holes into the hardboard wall Chris put up and then painted it a nice peachy-nude. We cut pieces of wooden dowel to fit into the holes to act as pegs to hold our tools on. (But only the most aesthetically pleasing tools of course, the rest are in the drawers) Pictured: Umbra Trigg Large Wall Vessel in Brass  and Umbra Trigg Vase in White As for the office, we wanted to keep it functional for office work, but still light and fun. The OH Chair’s from Umbra added just the right pop of colour for this! The office table is from Structube and is expandable to seat more people is needed. DIY FELT LETTER BOARD | WE FIGURED OUT THE BEST WAY

DIY FELT LETTER BOARD | WE FIGURED OUT THE BEST WAY

These letter boards are super popular and you best believe we are going to show you how to DIY them: Sorry Girls style. PS. If you’re new to The Sorry Girls, we’re a (mainly) DIY YouTube channel so there is a video on this tutorial if videos are more your style. If not, read on!   COST $20-30 The plastic letters are what is going to cost you the most. The felt, picture frame, and foam core only totaled about $8 DIFFICULTY MATERIALS – foam core – picture frame (ours is thrifted) – black felt (or colour of your choice) – plastic letters (grab these off of amazon: 3/4″ letters, 1/2″ letters, 1″ letters) TOOLS – hot glue gun – ruler – pencil   So we’ve seen these boards done before. Often with square or round wooden dowels, well guess what? We tried that and it didn’t really work, the roundness and size didn’t allow the letters to stay in. So we thought maybe using a corrugated plastic? Buttt unless it’s the PERFECT spacing, that won’t work either. SO we decided to measure and cut our own pieces instead of wasting more time and money trying to figure out if there is an existing material that is going to work. We did this out of foam core and this is going to be way cheaper than buying dowels. For the standard 3/4 inch plastic letter board letter which you can grab off amazon for under $20, we measured a 3/16″ (4.7 mm) strip on the foam core, and cut this using an exacto knife. We repeated this about 45...
LOFT VIBES: LIVING ROOM, KITCHEN AND PLANT NOOK GOALS!

LOFT VIBES: LIVING ROOM, KITCHEN AND PLANT NOOK GOALS!

New episode of LOFT VIBES! We’re beyond excited about how beautiful things are looking and all of the special projects we had in this episode! For this post/ episode we tackled the kitchen, living room and plant nook – some very essential parts of the space! We also wanted to thank Best Buy Canada for helping us with some much needed office and home essentials! You’ll also spot some Umbra pieces which have been donated to the cause (the cause is creating our dream functional and stylish office/ living space) and we are SO grateful. Welcome to our “plant nook”. It’s technically the kitchen table as well but we didn’t put it anywhere near the kitchen so plant nook makes more sense. The table legs are from Wayfair, glass top is salvaged, chairs are from a local store in Toronto, the straw pendant and the mirror are from Ikea. The blanket ladder behind the table is a DIY! Ahhh the living room! Although, I feel very weird calling any of these spaces “rooms” because this loft is just one giant room really. I wanted to point out that ALL of our lamps have Philips Hue lights (Best Buy) which means we can turn them on/off with an app, change the colour of the bulb and dim them! Honestly this has been a game changer and is my new favourite party trick! That arch lamp tho. It’s a stunner now but the process to getting here was a tough one. Watch the episode if you haven’t yet to see that drama. The lamp was bought off of someone online. Say...
OUR LOFT BEDROOM & BATHROOM MAKEOVER

OUR LOFT BEDROOM & BATHROOM MAKEOVER

Hey friends! If you’re not up to speed, Kelsey and I moved offices from our tiny one room space to a gorgeous hard loft with exposed brick and floor to ceiling windows. AKA: a diy designers dream! We’ve slowly been making over the space and we’re documenting the process in a mini series on our YouTube channel we’re calling “Loft Vibes”. In this weeks episode, we turn an empty mezzanine into a beautiful boho chic bedroom for Kelsey. We also learned alot about cleaning old grout in our attempts to makeover the bathroom.   This DIY vanity was created with two ikea kitchen drawer units and flat shelving board from the hardware store placed on top.           Pictured: Umbra Trinket Earring Tree   Pictured: Umbra Touch Waste Can   We decided on a white and natural toned theme to match the wood with a pop of teal to add some fun! The bedding is West Elm and the Pillows + Throw are Home Sense   The Umbra Hub Mirror is our favourite piece in the space. Mirrors do so much for opening up an area and the circular shape is so beautiful above the bed!   We DIY’d these simple lamp shades since we found the exposed bulbs to be a bit too bright. We used some semi translucent scrapbook paper from the craft store and attached it to some thin wire we gently wrapped around the end of the lamp. These night stands are also a DIY. Click HERE to see how we made them!   Since Kelsey is living in the loft as...
WELCOME TO THE FUTURE AT THE NATIONAL HOME SHOW

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE AT THE NATIONAL HOME SHOW

Becky and I would totally consider ourselves tech-savvy people but sometimes you need to get out there, visit a Home Show or a Best Buy to really realize how far things have come since the last time your explored the tech industry (spoiler: it’s ever changing). Best Buy invited us to check out the National Home Show which means you’re also invited! We found sooo many things we didn’t know we needed until finding these products and just a warning that you will probably feel the same way between reading this blog post and watching the vlog. The photo above is the front door of the Best Buy Smart Home! We rang doorbells and video chatted with each other through a tablet (using the ring product/ app). If you had this you a) wouldn’t have to leave bed and b) never miss a package because you could just tell the mail person leave it at the door! (Missing packages is seriously a huge annoyance for us).   In the living room we found the Samsung 4K SUHD TV. I mentioned this in the vlog but I totally remember when we moved from VHS to SD and I was like “this is the end, we have reached max quality, this is amazing”. Then HD happened, followed by 4K and SUHD. So clearly we (as in we, humanity) are not done improving the viewing experience and I take back what I said at the end of the 90’s/ early 2000’s. In the “kids room” we found lots of toys – yes even toys we were VERY into. This dji drone is...
