OUR LOFT BEDROOM & BATHROOM MAKEOVER

OUR LOFT BEDROOM & BATHROOM MAKEOVER

Hey friends! If you’re not up to speed, Kelsey and I moved offices from our tiny one room space to a gorgeous hard loft with exposed brick and floor to ceiling windows. AKA: a diy designers dream! We’ve slowly been making over the space and we’re documenting the process in a mini series on our YouTube channel we’re calling “Loft Vibes”. In this weeks episode, we turn an empty mezzanine into a beautiful boho chic bedroom for Kelsey. We also learned alot about cleaning old grout in our attempts to makeover the bathroom.   This DIY vanity was created with two ikea kitchen drawer units and flat shelving board from the hardware store placed on top.           Pictured: Umbra Trinket Earring Tree   Pictured: Umbra Touch Waste Can   We decided on a white and natural toned theme to match the wood with a pop of teal to add some fun! The bedding is West Elm and the Pillows + Throw are Home Sense   The Umbra Hub Mirror is our favourite piece in the space. Mirrors do so much for opening up an area and the circular shape is so beautiful above the bed!   We DIY’d these simple lamp shades since we found the exposed bulbs to be a bit too bright. We used some semi translucent scrapbook paper from the craft store and attached it to some thin wire we gently wrapped around the end of the lamp. These night stands are also a DIY. Click HERE to see how we made them!   Since Kelsey is living in the loft as...
WELCOME TO THE FUTURE AT THE NATIONAL HOME SHOW

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE AT THE NATIONAL HOME SHOW

Becky and I would totally consider ourselves tech-savvy people but sometimes you need to get out there, visit a Home Show or a Best Buy to really realize how far things have come since the last time your explored the tech industry (spoiler: it’s ever changing). Best Buy invited us to check out the National Home Show which means you’re also invited! We found sooo many things we didn’t know we needed until finding these products and just a warning that you will probably feel the same way between reading this blog post and watching the vlog. The photo above is the front door of the Best Buy Smart Home! We rang doorbells and video chatted with each other through a tablet (using the ring product/ app). If you had this you a) wouldn’t have to leave bed and b) never miss a package because you could just tell the mail person leave it at the door! (Missing packages is seriously a huge annoyance for us).   In the living room we found the Samsung 4K SUHD TV. I mentioned this in the vlog but I totally remember when we moved from VHS to SD and I was like “this is the end, we have reached max quality, this is amazing”. Then HD happened, followed by 4K and SUHD. So clearly we (as in we, humanity) are not done improving the viewing experience and I take back what I said at the end of the 90’s/ early 2000’s. In the “kids room” we found lots of toys – yes even toys we were VERY into. This dji drone is...
GROW DIY CRYSTALLIZED GEODE IN JUST HOURS

GROW DIY CRYSTALLIZED GEODE IN JUST HOURS

Okay we’ve wanted to try these “grow your own crystal geodes” for a GOOD minute now and we finally found the perfect opportunity! If you haven’t already seen it – we had our hilarious friend Charles Carter do our voiceover for a DIY video on how to make a your own DIY crystal geode. We didn’t tell him what we were making beforehand so you can imagine how hilarious it was trying to explain what was happening. ANYWAYS you have to watch that if you haven’t already but let’s get on to the tutorial! We’ve seen this done a million ways but we figured out the way that would work best for us. MATERIALS –    pipe cleaners –    small piece of wire –    large glass jar –    food colouring of your choice –    borax TOOLS –    kettle for hot water –    wire cutters DIFFICULTY   To start grab some pipe cleaners (a lot) and start by making a circle. From there add curved pipe cleaners as if you were making a bowl. We’ve also seen others coil the pipe cleaner around itself. This is another method you could try! Keep adding pipe cleaners to the outside circle, weaving it in and out and connecting to another spot on the circle to create a bowl shape with as little holes as possible. Weave a piece of wire into the pipe cleaner and shape it over a large glass jar that will fit your pipe cleaner bowl shape without touching any of the sides. You’ll need to pick up some borax, which is a natural laundry booster/ chemical compound known as...
DIY STENDIG CALENDAR / MINIMAL WALL CALENDAR

DIY STENDIG CALENDAR / MINIMAL WALL CALENDAR

Happy New Year! We want to start your organization goals off right by DIYing a giant minimal calendar. We were inspired by the extremely popular Stendig Calendar and made some adjustments to suit our taste. We created this calendar out of some poster board and some custom stamps. We used the Silhouette stamp kit but you can easily create your own with some simple craft foam and wooden block. All the templates you need and instructions are below! Cost:  $15 – $40 (dependent on which supplies you need) Difficulty:  Materials: 12 sheets of white poster board 1 sheet of black poster board 2 large binder clips Silhouette stamp kit OR foam sheets and wooden blocks A large sheet of craft paper This template for all the letters and number   Tools: Scissors Small xacto knife Ruler Pencil Eraser   So the easiest way we found to make the giant numbers was to create a custom stamp. We have a silhouette machine which can cut things out on stamp paper but if you don’t have an electronic cutter machine, you can easily cut them out with an exacto knife. We have a template on our blog linked below which includes all the numbers and letters you’ll need. The rubber stamp material and stamp blocks we used will also be linked below. The best part about this sytem is you can easily swap between stamps and you can see through the blocks which makes stamping in the right spot super easy. If you don’t want to buy those materials, another option is to use basic craft foam. We’re using this method...

WE WERE SHOCKED AFTER VISITING A LOCAL PLANT STORE

WE WERE SHOCKED AFTER VISITING A LOCAL PLANT STORE

I don’t know about you but we (aka The Sorry Girls) have bought quite a few pants in our day. Some have survived with minimal watering and some basic attention, while others have died within a month of us getting them. WHAT COULD WE BE DOING WRONG? We took a trip to our local plant store aka nursery-studio-plant-heaven called Crown Flora and we got the low-down on all things plants from owner Adam. On a scale of one to green, I’m getting there… but there was SO MUCH that we didn’t know. There are so many simple steps that we’re about to give you so that when it comes to keeping your green friends alive, YOU’VE GOT THE KNOW HOW. Also, BTW our YouTube video on this subject matter was brought to you by Google’s Science and Making team – friggin’ cool! Alright, let’s get plant-ucated.   Let’s name a couple of SUUUUPERRR popular plants right now: palm, fiddle-leaf fig, succulents, cacti, tropicals. What do all of these have in common? We’ve owned and killed them or we’re afraid to own and kill them. If you’re anything like us, you cannot justify spending $100+ on something that may not be here in a month due to your lack of knowledge. Here are some things we learned after spending a couple of hours with Adam, plant expert extraordinaire:   WHERE YOU BUY & HOW MUCH YOU SPEND Where do you do most of your plant shopping? Honestly, we would get our plants from box stores that sell plants (the hardware stores, Walmart, etc). Although the prices may be significantly cheaper...
